Wednesday's HW, science notes & NEA's Dr. Suess Friday

We had a mellow day writing stories involving Hong Kong, Darth Vader and a little green, prickly alien. They were very interesting. We are continuing to review math concepts and covered the two ways in which to identify triangles today. The class has been given a worksheet to review the material with. This material was taken from the Scott Forsman math program that we will use once we complete the Saxon material in late March / early April.

The students are also responsible for completing their reading log for the day and returning any due library books to school tomorrow.

The biome tests were a mixed bag. We had nearly 1/3 of the students with 'A" grades, with the remainder floating in the hazy 'B' and 'C' range. This should have been an easy 'A" grade for the whole class, especially since all of the answers to the test were made available to them in their biome study guides.

We will begin our next unit in science on Thursday, and it is sure to be interesting for a few reasons. One, the material is focused on movements of the Earth's surface and how its appearance has changed over the years. Secondly, we will be referencing material from three different textbook companies. I took the opportunity to help pilot a science textbook adoption program for the district. The program will eventually determine which publisher will provide the science curriculum for the district next year.

Ok, Friday is the final day of this grading period and the NEA's Dr. Suess Reading Day. The school is participating in the country-wide event. Students can wear pajamas and bring a good book or two to enjoy and share with their friends and classmates. We'll be reading a few Suess classics and watching "The Cat in the Hat" movie. It is still a PE day, so I would ask that students wear or bring sneakers if they choose to wear slippers.

Does the fun ever end?

Respectfully, Mr. B
