Thursday & Friday

Howdy all. You have gotta love a smiling student with a decomposing banana! These things STINK! Everyone was sure that they were going to vomit. Thankfully the smell died down quickly. What a fun investigation!

We began our discussion of World War II today, particularly the events leading up to the US involvement in the Allied efforts and the rationale behind the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. We started reading Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes. It's a beautiful story, but very emotionally charged. I would like to show a documentary entitled "White Light, Black Rain" upon our completion of this reading. Even though the film is unrated, I will be sending home a consent form in next week's Green Folders that permit / deny your kids from viewing the film. I won't get into the particulars of the film here, but after watching it it provided me with a completely new perspective of the events surrounding this story.

I will be emailing drivers for Tuesday's field trip on Friday to confirm availability and timeframes.

Students are responsible for the following tonight:

-Reading Log (due next week)
-Math 13A
-Science Workbook pp 66 & 67
-Reading Practice book page 245
-Science vocabulary is due and will tested on tomorrow.

Respectfully, Mr. B

Wednesday

Howdy all. We are in a good place for the week. The weather has been kind, and the kids have been able to vent some energy during their recesses, keeping the classroom mellow! Always a nice thing. We are working on a second writing assignment now, aside from our Dream pieces, that are for the District bigwigs. The kids are writing about a favorite place. We are using our dream essays as templates, and the kids are having fun with the assignment. It will more than likely be finished on Friday.

Thursday brings us our final day of observing / recording the week-long banana decomposion project we started last Thursday. We are attempting to determine how and why decomposers are an essential past of a food chain / web. I'll be sure to post pics tomorrow of the end results!

Looks like a lot, but it's not. The kids are responsible for the following tonight:

-Reading Log
-Math 69 (1-20)
-Reading practice book page 244
-Science practice book pages 64-65
-continue studying science vocabulary for the week
-bring library books in Thursday morning

Respectfully, Mr. B

Happy Monday

Howdy all, and welcome to what has been forecasted as a gloomy, wet week. The kids are generally heck on wheels when they are stuck inside all day, so I have mixed hopes for a successful week. Maybe I'll have to crack the whip a few extra times here and there, eh?

Please be mindful of materials that are making it home in the Green Folders. I have only about half of the field trip permission slips for next Tuesday. Please make sure they get back in immediately. The driver situation is looking good, but guests are always welcome.

I sent progress reports home in the Green Folders today as well. They cover language arts, writing, social studies and math. They are current to this past Friday. For the majority of the class, the students are in a good place, considering that report cards do not go home until mid March. I have been reaching out to parents who's children I have concerns over.

I've updated the quiz and test section of the blog, and will continue to do so on a weekly basis. Of course, they are always subject to change.

The kids are responsible for the following tonight:

-Reading log (new, and in Green Folder)
-Math 67 (10-30)
-Reading Practice Book pp 236 & 237
-Science vocabulary (quizzed on Friday)

Respectfully, Mr. B
