and the fog rolled in...

Wow, I am feeling as if the weather is experiencing a mood swing this week. Despite the gloom of the fog, we had another very nice day. We are a quarter of the way in our first book study, had a good time with simile and metaphor poetry this morning, were able to work through some math concepts, and visited the computer lab.

I'm sorry that I have been unable to delve too deeply into curriculum this week, but I am waiting on textbooks for several table groups in the classroom. I have been assured that we will receive all that we need no later than next week, and I would ask for a little leeway in the next few days until all of it arrives.

The kids will each be receiving their Accelerated Reader goals on Monday in their weekly folders.

Tonight, all kids are responsible for the following:

- Saxon 5
- one nature journal entry (using the simile / metaphor method we used in class today)

Respectfully, Mr. Bryant

another beautiful day

Howdy all, and thanks for checking in. We had another great day, and the kids are adapting well to the multiple curriculum in the classroom. Each group has been extremely respectful of the other as I differentiate content for the grades. Of course, there is much we are working on together!

The kids were able to complete their math assignment in class today, so none of them have math homework tonight. Honestly, these first few weeks of math should be quite as easy, as the majority of the content will be review from the prior grade year.

We began working on Nature Journals this afternoon, and the kids have some work to do this evening for tomorrow's assignment. Each child sketched an item they found in nature. Tonight, each child will need to make a list of either ten uses for the item they sketched or ten things that the item reminds them of. If they cannot list ten of one of the other, they are welcome to combine the strands. For example, 7 uses and 3 things that it reminds them of are acceptable.

Respectfully, Mr. Bryant

the Second Day of Summer...

Howdy all, and thanks for checking in. We are all enjoying this amazing weather, but I have to be honest when I write that I wish it had made an appearance during our actual summer vacation. The kids were troopers today, working in a darkened classroom this afternoon in an effort to escape the heat.

If you've not yet had the opportunity to go through the Monday Folders that went home yesterday, please take a few minutes to complete the forms that need to be returned to school (even if your info has not changed from last year). I would ask that the folders and forms be returned to the classroom no later than Thursday, August 26.

Please also all of your child's classroom supplies purchase by this weekend, as we will be using them all beginning next week, especially the sketch book. If you need to wait a week on the thumb drive, please feel free to purchase it last.

The kids are responsible for the following tonight:

4th grade:
- Saxon 3 (1-26)
- Reflections practice book, page 1

5th grade:
- Saxon 3 (1-27)
- Reflections practice book, page 1

Respectfully, Mr. Bryant
