Wednesday

Howdy all, and thanks for checking in. I know we haven't even gone on the deYoung trip yet, but wanted to make the fourth grade parents aware of November's trip to Mission San Juan Bautista. I will not be attending this trip, but am still looking for drivers and chaperones to accompany Mr. McMillan's and Mrs. Davis' classes as they visit and explore this unique part of California history. Permission slips will be going home at Parent Conferences next week.

The students are responsible for the following tonight:

- Saxon 26
- Mrs. Mitchener's Problem o' the Week
- Nature Log writing (combining bird observation with research facts)

Respectfully, Mr. Bryant

Monday

Howdy all, and thanks for checking in. We've got a big week in front of us. Kids will be polishing up their kingdom writings for peer edits, delving into Spanish explorers, multi-tasking two math curriculum, and engaging with some groovy science concepts. I'll post pictures of our decomposing bananas soon. We've also adopted two crayfish, thanks to the keen eye of one of the kids.

Monday Folders are light this week. I am returning several weeks worth of reading practice pages, many of which did not receive full credit because of incomplete work. When language packets such as this are returned to the kids, they have the opportunity to complete the assignments in question. Completed packets can then be resubmitted for credit.

Conferences are next week, and I sent out an email to families this morning asking them to check on their scheduled time. Please be punctual for your appointment, and please have your child come along.

The kids are responsible for the following tonight:

fourth:

- Monday Folder
- Saxon 25 (all)
- Reading Practice Book pages 86 & 87 (this week's spelling)
- Reflections review, page 73 (1-4 only)

fifth:

- Monday Folder
- Saxon 25 (all)
- Reading Practice Book pages 70 & 71 (this week's spelling)
- Reflections review, page 134 (1-5 only)

Respectfully, Mr. Bryant

Thursday & Friday

Howdy all, and thanks for checking in. Now that the weather has calmed down for us, we are having some nice days together in the classroom.

Thanks again for folks who have managed to get back checks and permission slips for our deYoung trip. We still need about eight students to get their paperwork in,and I'll be sending out emails this weekend as a friendly reminder.

The kids received their first paychecks today, and tomorrow will be writing rent checks on their desks. We'll be having our first monthly auction tomorrow as well, and I am hearing that it is going to be a cut throat affair. Hopefully it ends up as good fun.

The kids need to complete Saxon 24 tonight.

Respectfully, Mr. Bryant

Wednesday

Howdy all, and thanks for checking in. I'm keeping this brief, so here we go. The kids are responsible for the following tonight:

Both grades have
- Saxon 23
- Book Reports due tomorrow
- Problem o' the Week due tomorrow
- Nature Log observation and sketch. This week's focus should be a bird. Students are asked to observe a wild bird and reflect on the experience. They should describe its general appearance and its behavior.
- deYoung permission slips and check

Respectfully, Mr. Bryant

Tuesday

Howdy all, and thanks for checking in. My apologies in getting this out so late, but the school has been without web access for the past day and its put a crimp in everything. I'm doing this from home!
Thanks to those of you who have responded quickly to my deYoung request of returning the permission slip and $35 ASAP. The logistics of gathering, depositing and having the Parent Alliance cutting a check for the total amount is a process, and I appreciate your willingness in making the procedure a stress-free one. Again, if forms and funds could be returned no later than Friday of this week, we'll be in good shape.
Mark your calendars for Friday the 15th of October, as the Harvest Festival is upon us. What a groovy way to end conference week, eh? And just think, if you are unhappy with the conference, you can take it out on me in the dunk tank from 6 - 6:30! Save you dollars and soak me!

I'm working off homework assignments from memory, so I hope I have them correct. The kids are responsible for the following:

Fourth:
- Saxon 22
- Reading Practice Book page 52
- Book Report

Fifth:
-Saxon 22
- Reading Practice Book page 50
- Book Report
- continue with plant & animal cell diagrams

respectfully, Mr. Bryant

Monday and the 411

Howdy all, and thanks for checking in. So much going on during this very hot week! First, I have graciously gone easy on the homework this week with the understanding that many of the kids have yet to begin their Monthly Book Report. The assignment is due this Thursday, and I will be looking for finished products and not excuses. A big part of what I will be working on with the kids this year is ownership and time management with one's self and work. Next month kids can expect to have a normal homework schedule, despite the due date of the book report. Again, reports can be typed or hand written.

Monday Folders have some goodies regarding the upcoming Harvest Festival and permission slips for the deYoung trip next month. If at all possible, please have permissions slips and checks back to the classroom by Friday! Again, thank you for your cooperation with this very special trip.

We did not start a new story this week, and will be focusing our literature and reading studies with The Phantom Tollbooth. Therefore, there are no spelling words this week.

The kids are responsible for the following tonight:

fourth:
- Saxon 21 (all)
- Reading Practice Book page 48
- Book Report
- Monday Folders

fifth:
- Saxon 21 (all)
- Reading Practice Book page 52
- Book Report
- Monday Folder

Respectfully, Mr. Bryant
