Thursday & Friday

Howdy all, and thanks for checking in. We have a wonderful day, full of some very creative writing. We were also treated to the second grade production of "The Little Red Hen". They did such a great job. We did a minor setback today, as one of our crayfish attacked and killed its tank-mate last evening. Nothing too gory, but the victor has been cannibalizing the deceased! The kids were fascinated by the events.

Friday brings us a spelling test for those who did not pass Monday's pretest, as well as brief area and perimeter quiz for the fifth grade students. We'll also be exploring the life of Chuck Close. Our first look at a living artist! The kids will then begin working on their giant self portraits, using Close's grid system as a model.

Tonight's work is keeping it simple.

Wednesday

Howdy all, and thanks for checking in. Just a few quick announcements to share. The fourth graders began corresponding with pen pals in Barcelona, Spain today! They received their first letters, and have crafted responses that will be sent within the next week. Fifth graders have completed study guides for next week's science exam on weather. The information is extensive, but they've been given concrete facts to work with rather than themes (like the last study guide).

Tonight, the kids are responsible for the following:

forth-

- Saxon 51
- RPB page 188
- problem o' the week

fifth-

- Saxon 53
-RPB page 164

Happy Monday

Howdy all, and thanks for checking in. The kids were serious troopers today as they worked diligently to complete the fall writing prompt. I'll be scoring their work in collaboration with the other fourth and fifth grade teachers, and the kids will get them back next week in their folders.
We are getting closer to the Winter Break, and the excitement is in the air. Jennifer Eldredge has reached out to everyone in the organization of a potluck and board game party.
Of course, with all of this holiday excitement the days will go by quickly. Please make sure that the kids are up-to-date with their assignments, as due dates will creep up on them. We do have two tests prior to the winter break, as each will have a math and science exam. Science study guides will go home next Monday, with exams a week from Friday.

In the meantime, the kids are responsible for the following tonight:

fourth -
- Saxon 50
- RPB pages 178 & 179
- nature log due Wednesday
- Monday Folders

fifth -
-Saxon 51
- RPB pages 162 & 163

Happy Thursday

Howdy all, and thanks for checking in. We've had four very productive days this week, and the kids are already anxious for the weekend. It's amazing how the time flies. Tomorrow brings us an opportunity to unwind and appreciate the world of art and literature, as the kids and I explore the life and works of artist Jean-Michel Basquiat and revisit our Kingdom Writings from late October.

If you haven't noticed it, we have a new link on the blog that will direct you to DonorChoose.org. The website is an amazing one, as it allows teachers to submit projects for funding by the world-at-large. If you have some time, feel free to click on the link. And, if you're feeling particularly generous, feel free to make a donation to help us make our continued studies of the arts in classroom a reality.

The kids are responsible for the following tonight:

fourth-
- Saxon 49
- study spelling words
- RPB pages 158 & 159

fifth-
- Saxon 9A
