Thursday & Friday

Howdy all, and thanks for checking in. I'm looking forward to seeing everyone tonight at our Back-to-School event. Again, our class's time slot is 7:15 - 8. It will be a fairly casual event, as our administration has nixed my request to serve beer. Oh well, something to do with a law. (I'm kidding about the request, by the way.)

Both grades are responsible for the following tonight:

- Saxon 17 (all)
- continue with kingdom / country descriptions
- Reading Practice book pages 33 & 34
- study for tomorrow's spelling quiz

Respectfully, Mr. Bryant

What a fantastic day! Thanks a million times over to our wonderful parents who accompanied us to the Monterey Bay Aquarium today. We were the aquarium's first class to visit this school year, and the kids set a pretty high bar for other schools and classes to follow. The little guy above is a very young cuttlefish that some of us were lucky enough to view in a behind-the-scenes sneak peek. Such a curious fellow. I'll be putting together a class album on Shutterfly soon that will allow folks to upload pics from trips / activities, as well as view what has been submitted.

A few of you have written regarding the on-line ordering process for Scholastic Book Clubs. The process has changed from previous years, so I have updated the link and activation code on this page. Feel free to use it now and often!

Respectfully, Mr. Bryant

Monday and Tuesday's Trip

Howdy all, and thanks for checking in. We are off to a very full week. I'll be sending an all-call voicemail out to the families shortly, but wanted to get the information regarding tomorrow's trip to the aquarium up now. One, we'll be leaving school promptly at 8am, as our Discovery Lab appointment is at 9:15. The aquarium will not allow us in if we are late, so we need to honor the schedule they have graciously offered us. Two, the kids need to bring a sack lunch. The gift shops are off limits, so the kids will not need to bring money. If anything, they are welcome to bring a camera, provided they can turn off the flash. The following parents have been kind enough to lend their time and efforts tomorrow: Linda Moore, Tracey Brosig, Jennifer Eldredge, Diane Sampson, Melina Dames, Lindsey Hymes and Kristin Whitwam. Thanks in advance!

Thursday night is Back-to-School Night. This is an event for parents, and I will be hosting a meet and greet from 7:15 to 8pm in the classroom. If I haven't met you yet, please stop by and say hello.

I am including Monday and Tuesday night homework here, as we won't be in classroom tomorrow.

4th & 5th grade:

- Monday Folder
- Reading Practice Book pp 30 & 31
- Saxon lesson 15
- Saxon pretest 2A

Thursday & Friday

Howdy all, and thanks for checking in. Great day today! The kids are very engaged with our new literature study, The Phantom Tollbooth by Norton Juster. We'll be exploring it together for the next few weeks.

I've heard from a few parents that the homework assignments have been confusing and that the kids have been bringing home the wrong materials, etc. I am taking a greater deal of time at the end of each school day now to ensure that kids are properly filling out their planners and that they have the required books, etc. to complete their homework.

Tomorrow brings us further into The Phantom Tollbooth, as well as some math and an artist study on Camille Pissarro. I'm looking forward to another great day.

The kids are responsible for the following tonight:

4th grade:

- Saxon 14
- Reading Practice book pages 14 & 15 (sentence types)

5th grade:

- Saxon 14
- Reading Practice book page 17 (adding details)

Both grades will need to finish their nature logs (if they haven't done so already), as I will be collecting their efforts tomorrow.

Respectfully, Mr. Bryant

We have all of our permission slips accounted for for next week's aquarium trip, and we're looking forward to an amazing day there. We currently have seats for 23 children, but have 28 kids in the class. If one more parent would make themselves available for the day, it would be greatly appreciated by all.
