Thursday & Friday

Howdy all, and thanks for checking in. The trip to Ano Nuevo was amazing! The weather was on our side, and we were treated to a groovy time. The animals were pretty sedate, but we were able to take in come amazing sights all the same. The sight of an osprey gliding by with a freshly caught fish in it's claws was stunning. As we were walking out, the little green guy above hopped across our very wet path. I am posting pics to the Shutterfly site shortly.
Thanks again to our wonderful parents who helped make the day a fun and safe one. Tiffany, Alisa, Nancy, Megan, Linda, Brandon, Tony and Steve...endless gratitude is making its way to you. We are all very grateful.

Friday brings the very last day of the second grading period. All work must be turned in by the end of the school day tomorrow in order to be counted.

Friday also brings us Jogging for the Arts. And pledges collected / gathered can be brought to school tomorrow. I am not sure of our exact running time, but the kids always seem to have good time!

Tonight the kids are responsible for the following:

- reading log (due Friday)
- Reflections vocabulary and sentences are due Friday as well. There is a short quiz on their definitions.

Respectfully, Mr. Bryant

Wednesday & the field trip

Howdy all, and thanks for checking. I'll be sending out a voice-mail to the families informing everyone of the details regarding tomorrow's trip, but here are the main points to keep in mind:

1.) We're leaving @ 8:15 and returning between 1:30 - 2
2.) Everyone needs to dress in layers. Hats are encouraged. Students may not wear shorts. If students have them, I would strongly suggest wearing water-proof shoes / boots, etc. It is not a sandal day. The trails will be extremely wet and muddy coming off of days of rain.
3.) Everyone needs to bring a bag lunch. We'll be having a snack in the parking lot of the park when we arrive, but will not be eating until near 12:30 or 1.
4.) Cameras are welcome, but umbrellas are not.
5.) We are going regardless of the weather. Thankfully, it is only supposed to be overcast tomorrow.

Tonight, the kids are responsible for the following:

- reading log
- math 18.1
- reading practice book page 300
- continue studying for Friday's vocabulary quiz

Also, I let the kids know again today that Friday is the last day that I can accept work to be applied toward this grading period.

Respectfully, Mr. Bryant

Monday & Tuesday

Howdy all, and thanks for checking in. The symphony was awesome today! A great round of applause and gratitude to the parents who helped out us and made the day possible:
Megan, Christine, Jennifer, Tami, Melina, Nancy and Brenda! I'll upload some pictures to our Shutterfly site tomorrow. The kids really enjoyed themselves and were extremely respectful of the performers and venue. A great morning!

If you are a driver / chaperone for Thursday's Ano Nuevo trip, would you please be kind enough to send me an email with the number of passengers you are able to accommodate. It's a long drive, and I want to get groups organized by compatibility! Your help is much appreciated in this matter. (If a number is next to your name on the blog, please disregard.)

The kids are responsible for the following tonight:

- blue folders (info on Jugging for the Arts, the Event and Scholastic book orders)
- reading log
- reading practice book pages 295, 296 & 297
- continue studying for Friday's vocabulary quiz

Also, I will be out tomorrow with a doctor's appt! Mrs. Abelar will be here in my place. The homework tomorrow includes the following:

- reading log
- nature log entry
- math 17.6
- reading practice book page 291

Respectfully, Mr. Bryant

Thursday & Friday

Howdy all, and thanks for checking in. Notes for today include the following:

1.) We will be having a spelling and fractions quiz tomorrow. The kids know what to study, and they should be a breeze.

2.) Nearly all the kids have submitted their permission slips for the symphony trip on Monday, and I've included the list of drivers here on the blog as well. I've a similar list for Thursday's trip to Ano Nuevo up as well. I will be sending out a call to families on Sunday and Wednesday reminding everyone of the following day's activities.

3.) We are very near the end of this grading period. I will accept any late work (as noted on the progress reports up through next Thursday, March 4. Work submitted beyond that date cannot be included in this reporting period.

4.) We completed the readings of two books this week, James and the Giant Peach by Roald Dahl and The City of Ember by Jeanne DuPrau. We have begun the sequel to Ember, and will get into some fun Gold Rush literature after next week.

The kids are responsible for the following tonight:

- reading log
- reading practice book page 268
- math 17.5

Wednesday & the Symphony

Howdy all, and thanks for checking in. Here are a few notes of interest for you:

1.) We have enough drivers for Monday's trip to the symphony, so we are a go. I'll add the list of drivers to the blog (along with the number of available seats in each car). The kids were told today that permission slips will be accepted until Friday of this weeks. Students who do not submit permission slips by this time will be spending Monday in a 6th or 3rd grade classroom, as the 4th and 5th grades are all attending the symphony with us.

2.) The interweb safety presentation this morning raised a great deal of questions from the kids. Please attend tonight's presentation if you have questions or concerns regarding what was shared.

The kids are responsible for the following tonight:

- reading log
- math 17.4 (its a challenging set, so the kids were told to complete what they could. We'll be going over the questions one-by-one tomorrow to clear up comprehension issues.
- reading practice book page 274
- math problem of the week for Mrs. Mitchener
- bring library books that are due

Respectfully, Mr. Bryant

Monday

Howdy all, and thanks for checking in. A few notes for you all:

1.) We have the opportunity to attend a performance of the Santa Cruz Symphony next Monday. Unfortunately, the timing falls on the same week that we have our trip to Ano Nuevo to view the elephant seals in their habitat. My concern lies in taxing the parents who have volunteered their time on Thursday's trip to volunteer additional time on Monday. If you are able to attend either or both of next week's trips, please check over the permission slip in today's Blue Folders for details and let me know ASAP. If things work out, I will notify families later this week as to our final plans for attendance of the symphony.

2.) Wednesday we will be having an assembly for students regarding interweb safety. Our assembly will be from 9 - 10 in the morning. An assembly for the parents will be offered in the evening (from 6:30 to 8 in the MPR). A yellow flyer is accompanying each child home today. Please check it for specifics.

3.) The yearbook sale has been extended until tomorrow. If you have not ordered a yearbook, and wish to secure the lower price, order forms are available in the office.

4.) We've added some interesting pics from last's weeks trip and science experiment to our Shutterfly page. Check the link below and to the right to access them.
The kids are responsible for the following tonight:

- reading log
- reading practice book pages 270 & 271
- math 17.2
- spelling and vocabulary words were made available to each student today. Spelling quiz is this Friday, with California vocabulary being quizzed upon the following Friday.

Respectfully, Mr. Bryant
