Tuesday and Wednesday
Howdy all, and thanks for checking in. We had a very nice day. The kids are always excited to discuss their understanding and adventures with science, so we learned quite about experiences with various predatory animals today. We are continue to explore the ideas of food chains and food webs and looking at how organisms compete for resources.
I will be out of the classroom tomorrow, and leaving the kids in the very capable hands of Mrs. Abelar. The kids really enjoy her presence, and earned rave reviews from her last time she helped out on the 3rd.
The kids are responsible for the following Tuesday night:
- reading log
- reading practice book pages 82 & 83
- math lesson 5.2 (pages 39 & 40)
- nature log entry
- kids started pages 74 -77 in their science practice books, and may have some work to complete
The kids are responsible for the following Wednesday night:
- reading log
- reading practice book page 95
- math lesson 5.3 (pages 41 & 42)
The kids were told that I will be collecting their California Reflections practice book this Friday to grade pages 1 - 12. If they have yet to complete the pages, they should do so immediately as all have been assigned and covered in class. I will also be collecting reading practice books to grade "Tomas and the Library Lady" and "By the Shores of Silver Lake" work.
Respectfully, Mr. Bryant

Monday
Howdy all, and thanks for checking in. The day was an odd one, with the kids checking their hair for pictures and whatnot. They are growing up.
This week will be about the Island of the Blue Dolphins, as we finish the book and begin our Pacific Ocean animal reports. The kids have each selected an animal to report and write upon using the Monterey Bay Aquarium website. We'll be looking specifically at the life cycle, habitat and adaptations that have made the animals successful. Most of the kids, with few large mammal exceptions, will be able to observe their animal when we visit the aquarium in three weeks.
The Blue Folder has a very important form that needs everyone's immediate attention. On purple paper, you will each find an internet user agreement form that needs to be signed by both parent and student. I know that a few of you have turned this in, but I am asking everyone to please submit this version of the form no later than Thursday of this week. Students who do not return the form by Thursday will no be able to use the computer lab or classroom computers.
The kids are responsible for the following tonight:
- Blue Folders
- Internet user agreement
- reading practice book pages 86 & 87 (started in class)
- reading log (due Friday)
- math lesson 5.1, pages 37 & 38

Wednesday
Howdy folks, and thanks for checking in. Wow, what a difference a day makes! The kids and I are working very hard to be respectful of each other and to do our best every day. Today was miles better than yesterday. We had some very cool discussions surrounding food chains and webs, as well as studied the Hupa Indian tribe. The kids are working diligently at creating some awesome Native Californians books. We even had energy to begin working on the first part of our cave paintings.
Many of you have inquired about picture day next Monday. I'm sorry, but the studio has not provided us with order forms as of yet. I will send them home with kids as soon as I receive them. Our appointment time on Monday is 10:45.
Tonight, the kids are responsible for the following:
- reading log
- continue studying spelling words
- math 4.4, pages 33 & 34
- some kids may need to finish science practice book pages 70 & 71
Respectfully, Mr. Bryant
