Tuesday, 8/25

Howdy all, and thanks for checking in. The students are responsible for the following tonight:

- reading log
- math 2.2 (pages 11-12) Many students completed in class.
- reading practice book pages 23 & 32
- nature log entry. Student is to observe something not made by man (i.e. animal, bug, plant, cloud formation, etc.) and respond to the following using complete sentences.
1.) What are you observing ?, 2.) Where did you observe it?, 3.) When did you observe it?, 4.) What is it doing AND why do you think it is doing what you observe? When the written component of the entry is completed, students are asked to sketch / illustrate their subject matter. Nature logs will be assigned each Tuesday (restructured day) and are due back in class on Wednesday. Each student was a given a composition book to maintain as a nature log during the course of the school year.

Monday, Monday

Howdy all, and thanks for checking in. We've got a busy week in front of us, and here are a few things to keep in mind:

1.) Blue student folders need to be returned to school each week, no later than Friday,
2.) Students interested in running for classroom representative need to have their signed permission slip back to school by Tuesday, August 25th,
3.) Back to School Night is this Thursday, with our classroom dog and pony show running from 7:30 - 8:10,
4.) Tomorrow is a restructured day, and student dismissal is @ 12:05.

Students are responsible for the following tonight:

- blue folders
- reading log (due Friday)
- math lesson 2.1 (pages 9 & 10)
- reading practice book pages 30 & 31 (this week's spelling words)

Howdy all, and thanks for checking in. We had a very productive and fun day. We spent our morning writing some very interesting stories and mapping out what narratives have in common. Our math test wasn't too stressful, and we'll review them in detail tomorrow. (Everyone will get their tests returned in Monday's Blue Folder.)

Tonight, the kids are responsible for the following:

- study for "Akiak" spelling quiz
- reading practice book page 15 (sentences)

Thanks for checking in. The information that went home with the kids last week regarding the Back-to-School Night was incorrect. Please note that the evening will take place next week, on Thursday, August 27 (not Sept.10). Times are listed on the calendar to the right.

Tuesday 8/18

Thanks for checking in. The restructured school day is always an odd one, especially now that it is falling at the beginning of the week. I think that I am going to miss the good old short Wednesday.

Our short story of the week is entitled "Akiak", and it is about an Alaskan sled dog competing in the Iditarod. Its an exciting story, and the kids have enjoyed the work that focuses on the race.

We are trudging through math, using a new district mandated curriculum. It is not my favorite, but the kids seem to be working with it quite well.

Tonight, the class is responsible for the following:

- reading log
- math practice pages 5,6,7 & 8
- reading practice book pages 6-7

Again, I will attempt to offer the kids a few minutes at the end of each day to begin their homework (in an attempt to clarify understanding, etc.), so not everyone will be bringing the full list of work home each day.

a full week of fun

Thanks for checking in. We had a very full day, to what is going to be a very full week. The kids are working hard and getting down routines and understanding expectations for the fourth grade. It can be a trying time, so support them as best you can.

Howdy all. We had a very productive day today. The kids worked diligently on some writing samples, learned some math patterns when working with a million, began a science experiment and started exploring the worlds of producers and consumers. Tomorrow brings us into our first literature study with The Island of the Blue Dolphins!
