Thursday & Friday

Howdy all. I have just learned the the Board of Trustees voted on the 2009 - 2010 operating budget last evening / this morning at 1:30am. While the cuts are not what were expected (14 million instead of 17 million), they are nonetheless devastating to the state of education in PVUSD. The Board is hosting a meeting at Aptos High this evening at 5:15 to discuss their decisions, and I would encourage everyone who is able to attend to do so.

As Friday the 6th is the last day of the grading period, I cannot except work for the second trimester report cards past tomorrow.

Finally, the kids are responsible for studying their spelling words for tomorrow's quiz and must remember to turn in their reading logs.

Have a wonderful weekend, Mr. Bryant

Tuesday and Wednesday

Howdy all. Well the kids were troopers today as we barreled through a state and district assessment. We tackled the state's writing prompt by drafting a narrative that explained how they would handle being principal for a day. Interesting ideas. We then dove headlong into the district math benchmark for the second grading period. The kids managed through a bunch of fractions and decimals quite well.

As the week winds down, and the grading period closes, the kids will find themselves with less homework. For today, the kids are responsible for the following:

-reading log still due Friday)
-reading practice book pages 277 & 283
-Reflections practice book pages 68 & 69

Respectfully, Mr. Bryant

Monday and the week

Howdy all, we are in the final week of the second trimester. Report cards will be sent home on Friday the 13th, and the last day I will accept assignments from this grading period will be this coming Friday, the 6th.

We are not working on a new short story this week, but will continue to work with material from "Sing to the Stars." The kids have review spelling words for the week.

We are continuing with our Gold Rush studies in earnest, working with both our mining simulation and our reading of By the Great Horn Spoon! Both should wrap up by the 13th.

I will be working with the class to complete our biome books this week and early into the next. We will be having a substantial quiz on the material next Thursday or Friday, the 12th or 13th.

The kids are responsible for the following tonight:

-math 81
-reading practice book page 282
-Reflections practice book page 66 - 67 (started in class)
-orange folders
-reading log (due Friday)

Respectfully, Mr. Bryant
